Rawene is on Northlands West Coast Twin Coast Discovery route, state highway 12. North of Dargaville and the Waipula forest. South of Ninety Mile beach and West of the Bay-of Islands and Kaikohe.

HOKIANGA VEHICLE FERRY Timetable- The Hokianga Car Ferry leaves Rawene (the Southern side) every half hour from 07:30 to 20:00 and crosses to THE RAWENE NARROWS (4 Km South of Kohokohu) in the North, linking state highway 12. No bookings, cash only - the short 10 minute crossing is inexpensive.
